Avoid feeling troubled with your deviated septum with a surgery called Birmingham Septoplasty. It is a surgery that corrects dislocated or crooked septum.
The septum is the cartilage inside our nose that divides our two nostrils. It also supports the nose and give it it triangular shape. Most people don’t have straight septum. They are commonly slightly bent to one side. But there are people whose nasal septum are dislocated causing an odd structure for the nose and difficulty in the passage of air.

During Septoplasy, the doctor first put the patient into anesthesia so that the patient will not feel any pain before and after the operation. They then make a little cut on the nose directly above the nasal septum. They will then straighten the septum or in many cases, they also remove little bones that are obstructing the air flow.
The surgeon will then close the cut by a few stitches. The material used for the stitches will melt after a few days and so there’s no need to remove them. A nasal pack will also be applied for a few days. The patient can go home a few hours after the operation.
This surgery takes only up to 2 hours. It is considered to be very safe and is the most effective way of treating deviated septum. It is also one of the most common ways to solve snoring especially among the males because it opens up the air passageway. Birmingham Septoplasty is done to hundreds of patients every year.
